Google Now – not as cute as Siri or Galaxy, but well on ‘her’ way.

google-now-LogoAs a social media strategist; I  research essential tools in an effort to better serve my clients. Today, I spent some time reviewing the latest SEO tools, having recently learned about Google’s optimization testing based on SSL certificates. WHAT? Yes, that was a snore. Really.

Like most of the world, I rely on Google “search” to lead me to my answers. When Google wanted to compete with Apple’s Siri, their answer was Google Now. Google Now is an intelligent personal assistant developed by Google. It is available within the Google Search mobile application for the Android and iOS operating systems, as well as the Google Chrome web browser on personal computers.

You pick up your phone and say “OK Google” and  “Call home “. The call is made. You are driving to a meeting, and say “Ok Google”, “directions to the location”.  This is a great tool, and you never have to take your eyes off the road. The answers are precise, and not just links to another website. Very cool.

Try searching for “do a barrel roll” and watch the page spin.

Google Now is very handy on your computer as well. You can type or use the voice icon to do your searches. Either way, it is very convenient.  Now it might not be as fun as Siri or Android’s OS, yet; but it has some fun hidden gems.

Try searching for “do a barrel roll” and watch the page spin. Seriously.  Go ahead and try it. I’ll wait.

A few other command searches:  “Tilt or Askew”, “zerg rush”,  and “Beam me up, Scotty”, provide a wee bit of entertainment.

Here are two sites that offer some examples to play around with. Enjoy the afternoon.  I  did.
